The Graceful Monkey Dance

Bastien Gliech
Grade 8, Edmunds Middle School

“The Graceful Monkey Dance is a song written for brass quintet and two percussionists. This piece is based around several varying melodies. At first, the piece starts out fast and intense, with complicated rhythmic patterns. Soon after, the tempo changes. The piece transitions from a fast paced introduction to a slower part. The third section speeds up as the snare drum plays differing rhythms. It slows down for a satisfying ending.”

Fairy Tale

Tyler Silbey and Luke Cuerdon

Grade 6, The Grammar School, Putney VT

Fairy Tale is a playful piece for glockenspiel and xylophone. We named it Fairy Tale because it’s one of our favorite manga book series. It’s also called Fairy Tale because we think the music tells a story. We were interested in percussion, because we’re both percussionists and we explored drums and the other brass instruments and decided that we liked glockenspiel and xylophone best.”
