Winter’s Path

Robin McLaughlin
Grade 12, Essex High School

Winter’s Path started out as a chord progression, and later grew into a full-fledged choral piece for mixed voices.  The tonality centers around D major, but occasionally dips into A major.  Notable are the driving sextuplets in the piano part, which seek to convey a blustery, stormy feel.  The lyrics use the imagery of the seasons to describe a situation where life feels somber, and wintery; but expresses how, like winter, life will inevitably turn better.”
