Fantasia for Brass Quintet

Jackson Macor

Grade 11, Guilford High School, Guilford Connecticut

“This Fantasia for Brass Quartet is a slow and at times march-like piece for two trumpets, trombone, and tuba. The piece starts with a vertically structured introduction which quickly leads into the first main theme. This theme is stated twice before the piece modulates into the dominant where it quickly modulates once again into the relative minor of the dominant. From here, the piece transitions into a short double fugue based on the first major theme. The piece then leads into a sequential section based off the rising and falling of tones from triads. This sequence builds until dual suspensions are played by the trombone and first trumpet. This then leads into the final cadence.”
